The Horizon is a guitar duo. They’ve been performing together from 2010 and have since become starts of corporate functions, weddings, parties and many other occasions.

Over the years they’ve found themselves working with numerous acts such as vocalists, saxophonist and full bands (bass player, drummer and keyboards). They are as efficient with additional acts as they are a duo.

Although Jazz, pop and African music dominates their repertoire, they often wonder into many other genre at request. Their repertoire boasts over 60 songs fit for weddings, parties, corporate spaces, concerts and many others.

Professionalism has governed the group since the beginning of their career, they respect each other as they respect their clients.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the entertainment industry, performing with established Jazz bands in the early days, to Corporate and Events Specialist.

My forte is songs from the Era of Great Singers Crooners or Balladeers is the term used most often .My other great love is the acoustic guitar and vocal combination, which has become the Perfect Networking mood setter. I am able to roam around on a wireless system should I be required to do so.

My extensive repertoire includes a variety of Beautiful ballads, Latin & Jazz Standards and Fun renditions of Popular Songs. I’ve also been asked to DJ & MC on the odd occasion, making it exceed all expectations. Appropriate background music is played between sets.

Able to perform as a Solo artist, Duo or Trio with Double Bass, Saxophone or Piano, all tailor made to suit your event. PA equipment available on request.

Jane has extensive experience in performance, ranging from:

  • The KZN Philharmonic orchestra (where I have permanent residence as a violinist)
  • Barnyard Shows
  • Her live electronic duo Veranda Panda. Who have played across every major festival in the country. Including Splashy FEN and rocking the daisies.
  • Corporate events and shows across South Africa ranging from Gala dinners, Company Anniversaries, and sporting events and Conferences.

Jane has a comprehensive library of backing tracks to suit any event and also plays solo violin without tracks as well as with a number of Classical String Ensembles.

She is also able to perform during welcome drinks in the beautiful Red Carpet Dress, as a unique twist at your event.

Kabelo Motlhomi – Solo violinist

Kabelo Motlhomi – Solo violinist

Based:  Johannesburg

As a freelance musician and recording artist he has worked or collaborated with Bra Hugh Masekela at the Market theatre in 2010 “Songs of Migration” and Sibongile Khumalo celebrating 20 years of enriching the country with her music.

To add to long list of artists are Tshepo Mngoma and Gloria Bosman, Bala Brothers, Judith Sephuma and Zahara, Swazi Dlamini, Black coffee, Kent, Khuli Chana, HHP, Kwesta and many others.
As a soloist and concertmaster Kabelo has toured Europe and the United States with Buskaid.

The Biggest highlight in his career was in 2013 when he was asked to play at the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom held in Johannesburg.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started his music tuition in 1997 at the age of 11 at Buskaid in Soweto. In the 10 years he spent playing with Buskaid he led the Ensemble for 5 years and collaborated with distinguished orchestras around Europe and the United States. He had the privilege to play with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The English Baroque Soloists conducted by John Elliot Gardner.

At the age of 19 he went to further his studies at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he completed his Higher Diploma in Music under Jonathan Morton who is the Artistic Director/leader of the Scottish Ensemble and performances as a leader for the BBC Symphony orchestra, London Sinfonietta and other orchestras.

Kabelo Motlhomi is currently the leader of Resonance String Quartet. The Quartet has recently released their debut album called Kuanza, which can be found on all major online stores like Itunes, Spotify, Amazon
Kabelo Motlhomi plays on a 1772 Sebastian Kloz Violin and Yamaha SV-250 Electric Violin. His main focus this year will be doing more work as a soloist and establishing himself as a jazz violinist.

Kristel Birkholtz

Kristel Birkholtz

Based: Johannesburg

Kristel is an accomplished, versatile and engaging violinist and singer-songwriter.

She studied a music degree WITS University with music performance as a major (BMUS) and later focusing on music industry research (MMUS) .

For her academic performance at WITS she was awarded a scholarship for music as well as prizes for the best string player.

After completing her degree, she continued performing with various ensembles and a Celtic rock band.

On the theatre stage she also performed a solo violin role for many Barnyard Theatre show productions including “Beethoven Rocks Again” , “ Natural Woman” , “Rock Me Amadeus” and “Harvest Moon “.
