OUR MUSIC

Afro-Cal Play (Afro Vocal Play): A mixture of great vocal techniques first heard from Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Take 6, Naturally 7, Pentatonix and The Real Group in emulating instrumental sounds and resonances to produce music. We’ve taken all these elements and put them together in a distinctly African way to produce the sound of: “Stimela”, “Kuzolunga” and “Take Me Back“.

Rosie Motene

Rosie Motene

Based: Johannesburg

An extraordinary story of cultural confusion and the long way home to a black girl’s emotional
roots. David Robbins.

The Rosie Motene story is about a young girl born to the Bafokeng nation during the apartheid era
in South Africa. At the time, Rosie’s mother worked for a white Jewish family in Johannesburg who
offered to raise the child as one of their own.

This generous gesture by the family created many
opportunities for Rosie but also a trail of sacrifices for her parents. As she grew, Rosie struggled to
and her true identity. She had access to the best of everything but as a black girl she floundered
without her own culture or language. This book describes Rosie’s journey through her fog of
alienation to the belated dawning of her self-discovery as an African.

ROSIE MOTENE graduated from Wits University with a Bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Arts and
started her on-screen career as a TV presenter. She then landed a principal role in Africa’s most
proli c soap opera, Generations. Rosie has starred in a number of lms and TV series including the
internationally acclaimed Hotel Rwanda and the lifestyle show Studio 53.

She manages her own
business, the Waka Talent Agency, and has also been active for over a decade in generating
awareness of women and children abuse across the African continent. She has also found time to
write the story of her life.

DJ Kent

DJ Kent

Based: Johannesburg

DJ Kent is the epitome of cool, calm and collected – that is, until he hits the decks and works club crowds around the country into a frenzy.

Not just content with rearing up the decks in night clubs, Kent also established himself as a producer. He was in the forefront of the now dissolved production team, Kentphonik, which was signed to 88 Productions in 2005. He has worked on a number of hit songs that have since then ranked his name amongst the best producers South Africa has to offer.

His production and expertise has been featured in over 50% of South Africa’s biggest compilations since 2005. In 2008 by releasing solo debut offering, called “Mixing Business with Pleasure Reloaded”, under a record label he co owns. The album features a combination of his own production skills and licensed material and is destined to storm the carts, destroy the dance floors and calm hoards of hungry fans – for now, that is…

As an entrepreneur Kent has taken a bold step by signing two major acts in his new record label, Diamond Dealer from Bloemfontein and Relo of the famous Skwatta camp crew.

For Kent, who is only in his early twenties, it’s clear that anything he sets his mind to is attainable.
